The Small Grants Programme Launches a Series of Local Platform Meetings in the Governorates of the Seventh Phase

The Small Grants Programme (SGP), under the Global Environment Facility (GEF), has launched a series of local platform meetings across the geographical regions where projects of the seventh operational phase are being implemented. The meetings are attended by Dr. Emad El-Din Adly, National Coordinator of the SGP, Dr. Hala Yousry, Chairperson of the National Steering Committee, along with executive leaders, representatives of relevant government entities and partner organizations, and NGOs implementing projects funded by the programme.

The seventh phase of the Small Grants Programme is being implemented between 2022 and 2026 in seven governorates distributed across four geographical regions:

Greater Cairo Region, which includes Cairo and Giza;

West Delta Region, which includes Alexandria and Beheira;

Upper Egypt (South), which includes Qena and Luxor;

In addition to the Fayoum Governorate.

The series of local platform meetings begins in Fayoum on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, followed by the Southern Upper Egypt Regional Platform Meeting for Qena and Luxor on Thursday, October 24, 2024. The event will be preceded by a field visit to several projects being implemented in Qena and Luxor on Wednesday, October 23.

The objective of these meetings is to review the progress of projects funded by the programme, highlight upcoming planned activities, and ensure alignment with local development plans in the governorates of the seventh phase, as well as with the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and other relevant ministries, to ensure the integration and complementarity of these projects with national initiatives.

Dr. Emad El-Din Adly emphasized that the SGP has always adopted a participatory approach, starting from the conceptualization of project ideas to the formulation of the national programme strategy, as well as during implementation and monitoring phases. He added that, in line with this participatory approach, local platforms are being established in the targeted geographical regions under the seventh phase. These platforms bring together all relevant partners involved in each funded project.

Dr. Adly further explained that the main mission of these local platforms is to ensure that all projects are implemented in a transparent and collaborative manner, promoting coordination and knowledge exchange among stakeholders while also addressing any challenges or obstacles that may arise during project implementation.
