The Small Grants Programme Launches a Series of Local Platform Meetings in the Governorates of Phase Seven
The Small Grants Programme (SGP), affiliated with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), has launched a series of local platform meetings across the geographic regions where projects under the seventh operational phase are being implemented. These meetings are attended by the programme’s National Coordinator, Dr. Emad El-Din Adly, Dr. Hala Yousry, Chair of the National Steering Committee, executive leaders, representatives of relevant and partner entities in the governorates, as well as civil society organizations implementing the funded projects.
The seventh phase of the Small Grants Programme is being implemented from 2022 to 2026 in seven governorates across four geographic regions: Greater Cairo (Cairo and Giza), West Delta (Alexandria and Beheira), South Upper Egypt (Qena and Luxor), and Fayoum.
The local platform meetings will begin in Fayoum Governorate on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, followed by the South Upper Egypt platform meeting—attended by representatives from Qena and Luxor—on Thursday, October 24, 2024. A field visit to several ongoing projects in Qena and Luxor will take place on Wednesday, October 23.
These meetings aim to review the activities carried out under the funded projects and highlight the upcoming initiatives planned for the coming months. The goal is to ensure alignment with local action plans in the phase seven governorates and with the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and other relevant ministries, ensuring that the projects contribute to and complement national development efforts.
Dr. Emad Adly emphasized that the Small Grants Programme has consistently adopted a participatory approach—from the initial project concept development to shaping the national strategy for each operational phase, as well as during project implementation and activity monitoring. As part of reinforcing this participatory model, local platforms are being launched in the targeted geographic regions during phase seven. These platforms bring together all stakeholders involved in each funded project. Their core mission is to ensure that projects are implemented with transparency, partnership, and coordination among all parties, while also facilitating knowledge exchange and addressing any challenges that may arise during implementation.
