Projects directly related to achieving a global benefit in the areas of interest of the facility, namely biodiversity conservation, mitigation of climate change, protection of international waters, reduction of soil degradation and reduction of the use of persistent organic pollutants.

Projects that aim to generate local interest as well as global interest
Projects that use sustainable livelihood strategies, in order to achieve economic benefit to the community. This includes projects that help reduce the problem of unemployment by providing the unemployed with permanent jobs (or at least temporary jobs), and developing their skills, making it easier for them to find stable sources of income. Projects that ensure sustainability, through the ability of the executing association to implement and sustain the project, and through the availability of factors, strategies and feasibility studies that ensure the long-term continuity of the project, especially after the end of the grant Projects with an impact on policy-making, which will have an impact at all levels, large and small Projects that clearly show the impact that the project's objectives and activities will have on the areas of interest of the facility and the practical programs associated with them. Each activity is linked to clear and specific results that have criteria for evaluating its success Projects that include other contributions from the association, the community and donor agencies to provide parallel co-financing Important secondary criteria Projects that work with and help engage vulnerable and marginalized groups in the project area Projects aimed at empowering women and involving youth in planning, as well as the project implementation process Projects that take care of children, especially children of poor communities Projects that help in the process of sustainable human development, by providing communities with the necessary education, training, and technical and administrative support Projects that are easy to replicate in other regions Other criteria to consider The National Steering Committee of the Small Grants Program has also set a set of financial conditions that must be met in any projects that the program finances, and they are limited to the following: That the applicant association contribute to the project and the community in the amount of 50% of the total cost, provided that at least half of this contribution is in cash That 70% of the value of the grant provided by the program to the association be spent in the direct costs of implementing the project That 20% of the grant value be spent on programs to raise awareness of the importance of local community participation in adopting and participating in the project Spending no more than 10% of the grant value on administrative expenses, including salaries
